Sounding Decolonial Futures: Decentering Ethnomusicology's Colonialist Legacies

Zeisberg 04 "Mocking Bird Song"

In this arrangement, marked as both "Transcribed and Harmonized by Prof. J.C. Fillmore" (my emphasis) in the original, Zeisberg has maintained the title. Although the credit in the original says Fillmore harmonized it, the notation includes only a single melodic line, not his typical harmonized arrangements. In arranging this tune, it is Zeisberg who has added harmony. This is the first tune in his collection of piano arrangements that has maintained the text, not only of the original Tigua phrases, but also the translated version provided in Fletcher's story. His arrangement shows creative license in playing with register of phrases.
