Oberlin's Namesake: John Frederick Oberlin (1740-1826)

Printing press

Like those in the Peace Corps today, Oberlin had to be resourceful in employing technologies not available in the region where he served. He built his own portable hand press for printing sheets of text, using imported type.

Here is an example of the sheets of small squares with verses on them that Oberlin set in type and printed to cut apart and give to parishioners and friends.
