Sounding Decolonial Futures: Decentering Ethnomusicology's Colonialist Legacies

Annotation: Piano Transcriptions

These piano arrangements are not technically transcriptions: the act of graphically reflecting sonic practices one heard aurally. There is no reason to suppose the arranger noted here, F. J. Zeisberg, heard cylinders that Alice C. Fletcher recorded in the field, but rather more likely that he consulted John C. Fillmore's published piano arrangements of Fletcher's transcriptions. It would be more accurate to say they are re-arrangements of what are themselves arrangements of transcriptions.
